Description
Southern Style Macaroni and Cheese Recipe is a rich, baked comfort dish made with elbow macaroni, cheddar, colby-jack, eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, butter, and sour cream, finished with a golden, cheesy top and classic Southern flavor.
Ingredients
4 cups elbow macaroni (16 ounces)
1 tablespoon chicken bouillon powder
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, melted
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups freshly grated mild cheddar cheese
1 cup freshly grated white cheddar cheese
1 cup freshly grated colby-jack cheese
2 eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Nonstick cooking spray (for greasing the dish)
1 teaspoon paprika (for topping)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then add the chicken bouillon powder. Stir in the elbow pasta and cook until just al dente, following the package directions. Drain well.
In a big bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, and pepper until smooth.
Add the drained pasta and sour cream to the bowl. Stir in most of the shredded cheeses, saving a little for the topping. Mix until the pasta is evenly coated and cheesy.
Pour the cheesy pasta mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
Sprinkle the reserved cheese over the top and dust with paprika. Bake uncovered for 35 to 45 minutes, until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
Let your mac and cheese cool for about 15 minutes before digging in. Slice, serve, and enjoy that Southern comfort.
