Description

Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet Recipe combines savory ground beef cooked in a tangy sloppy joe sauce, topped with crispy golden tater tots and melted cheddar cheese, creating a hearty, comforting one-pan meal perfect for busy family dinners.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 bag (about 32 ounces) frozen tater tots

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 onion, chopped

2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)

1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons BBQ sauce

1 tablespoon mustard

1 to 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

Cook the Tater Tots: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius). Spread the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, turning them halfway through, until they are extra crispy. For best results, you can also use an air fryer according to package directions.

Prepare the Sloppy Joe Mixture: While the tots bake, heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, breaking up the beef, until it is browned and the onion is soft. Stir in the salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Sauce It Up: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and BBQ sauce. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

Assemble: Once the tater tots are cooked, arrange them in a single layer over the sloppy joe mixture in the skillet. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

Finish: Place the skillet under your oven’s broiler for 1 to 2 minutes, watching closely, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Scoop onto plates and enjoy immediately.
